A large part of Surf City's history centers around the swing bridge connecting Topsail Island with the mainland. From it's completion in the 1940's until the high-rise bridge opened on the north end, the swing bridge was the main entry point to Topsail Island. Still in operation, although there is talk of replacing the swing bridge with a high-rise bridge like the north end's, Surf City's swing bridge is an integral part of the heritage on Topsail Island.
We are in the process of trying to locate the actual history of Surf City, prior to the presence of "Project Bumble Bee", the origins of Jet Propulsion and NASA. The history of Surf City beginning with the arrival of "Project Bumble Bee" can be found at the "Missiles and More Museum"
