Our Technology is managed by a long established and respected Company, Sound Trax Technologies. Founded in 1979 to fill a growing need in a new industry, Personal Computers. Information Technology Consultants were scarce and most of the consultants that did exist were primarily educated and trained on mainframe systems. Small Personal Computers was not a big business, therefore it was not something any of the major technology companies were interested in. Consultants and Programmers had to be flown in from New York or California, this got very expensive and raised the cost of computing beyond the means of most people and businesses. Sound Trax Technologies was formed to fill this gap in both consulting and custom programming (as most of the applications of this era were).
In 1979 PC's were very expensive, ($16,000.00 for V20 or Intel 8088 series) and uncommon (our TI Prodigy V20 was only the 3rd PC in North Carolina). This new technology would eventually change the whole concept of computers, but in 1979 the term "Computer" meant the hardware and a couple of disks with the source code to be tailored to your application or business and compiled on site. Microsoft was still in it's infancy with IBM-DOS & MS-DOS still in their labs. Systems of this era ran on CP/M, (computer programming/machine language), environment. There was no prepackaged software as there is today, any precompiled, packaged software was for the mainframe environment and that usually need to be tailored to the situation and recompiled on site to fulfill it's functions.
We began within three months of buying our system, needing to alter the output of a couple of lines in one of our programs. We were told that we would have to fly a programmer in from New York to do the work and although it would only take a couple of hours to do what we needed done, it would cost the minimum of $ 500.00 plus lodging, meals, travel expense, and the round trip plane ticket. The only other alternative would be to buy a compiler, learn the code and do it ourselves or be happy with it like it was. We bought the compiler, learned the language (Cobol), and in less than thirty days we altered the code, recompiled the program, and gave our client the output they wanted.
Two weeks later the manager of the company we bought our system from, wanted to know if we could alter some programs for one of their other customers. We agreed to do the rewrites, at a substantial savings, (no plane ticket and no hotels, I was local to the area), for both the computer company and the end user. Soon there were as many or more coding and consulting jobs than we had for accounting jobs, (which, incidentally, was the original purpose of the computer). This blossomed into a full time consultation and custom software company known as Sound Trax Technologies - Quality Coding, IT & Business Consulting since 1979.
